Welcome to Change with Connie!! So glad you ventured here and I hope you will visit often and learn what we are all about. Our goal will be to share easy to understand ways to make some changes in the world of Health and Wellness. This industry is both exciting and confusing!! Our hope is to help you sort out some of the most confusing things in ways that will be easy to understand and easy to apply. Let's get started!
We have a principle that we apply to most areas of our lives. You may have heard about it somewhere in your travels because lots of people believe it is an approach that brings real balance to life. It is the 20/80 Rule!! Let me explain.
Most people fail at reaching goals because of unrealistic expectations. Unrealistic expectations come from really wanting to do something and wanting to do it right. However, we set ourselves up to fail if our initial approach is unrealistic based on our real lives.
There are extreme situations that call for 100% focus and dedication to something for a specific amount of time, but in general the 20/80 Rule is best.
I want to start the conversation about this rule from the point of applying it to a regular way of living. We will talk about the times when 100% focus is necessary later.
Finances – Many successful people believe, live and teach the 20/80 Rule with regards to finances. Financially responsible and successful people know that giving 10% to charity, saving 10% and using 80% of their income is the best way to create a budget! Something about applying this to your finances sets you up for success. It prepares you for the future, meets your current needs and communicates to the world around you that you are not selfish. As believers we believe this communicates to God that we understand all belongs to Him and we are trusting Him with our money. I find it incredibly interesting though, that believers are not the only ones that believe that applying this principle is the right thing to do.
Nutrition – Eating. Who knew this could be such a complex issue?!! 1000's of experts and 1000's of books tell us that this is one of, if not the biggest, issue we face. We must figure this it or else we have no hope for health and happiness!! This statement and statements like this are what make us crazy!! So crazy that we try all kinds of crazy things! Applying the 20/80 Rule to our nutritional needs really helps make things seem a little less crazy and a lot less scary! We believe and teach that once you have any health concerns figured out eating as healthy as you can 80% of the time and allowing for mistakes, social eating, etc. 20% of the time is a balanced way to keep yourself healthy and sane.
Exercise – Yet another “hot button” issue. I can't even get my brain around how much money is spent in this industry!! I know I've dumped my share of hard earned cash into it, how about you? This industry's message is that you can exercise your way to true health. I simply have to disagree with this! If we apply the 20/80 Rule here it would look like this. Eating right is 80% of the healthy equation and exercise is the 20% portion. Exercise or functional movement is absolutely necessary for health. It is the key to maintaining and/or regaining balance, strength, and heart health. Three key components necessary to carry us into our aging years. But flipping this equation simply breeds obsessive behavior that can actually harm your body.
The times when 100% focus in any of the above mentioned areas might be required are as follow;
We will spend lots of time in future posts talking about these things in more detail. So begin today by just pondering some of these ideas. Take a serious and honest look at where your efforts so far have gotten you and consider where some changes might be helpful.
Until next time, have an amazingly health-filled day!!
Everyone deserves "the Good Inside," and, yes, "Purity is Possible."
